Everyone has been asking why I am cutting my hair off before I start the journey on El Camino. There are two reasons. The first is practicality. Less hair, no shampoo, conditioner, brush, etc. = less weight = more ability to take fun stuff like my new travelers prayer book. And more room for food! The second is spiritual. There is a long tradition in many religions of shaving the head before embarking on a pilgrimage. Energetically too, it is literally cutting off the old stuff that may be stored there. An outward and visible sign of an inward intention to let go and lighten up!
